Atmosphere: Casual | Budget: $$$
There’s no shortage of seafood in Seattle – it’s one of the best places in the world to get fresh salmon, dungeness crab, scallops, and oysters. But if you want great seafood AND want to feel like you’re vacationing on the French Atlantic Coast….then Bar Melusine is the place you want to be. Between the white marble counters, the variety of faded green accents, and the mismatched (but also perfectly coordinated) stools…the entire place oozes with charm and memories of summer.
The restaurant was created by Renee Erickson (she is by the way, quite the Seattle celebrity chef….locals love her!), who was inspired to start the project while reminiscing on her past travels to Normandy and Brittany. My husband and I recently visited Bar Melusine for ‘date night’ and found it to be the perfect spot to relax over drinks and appetizers.
The minute I walked in the door, I immediately freaked out over how wonderful the decor and atmosphere was, and my husband had to wait patiently for me to finish snapping pictures of the restaurant. And then, he had to wait some more as I squealed and snapped MORE pictures of the food when it came out. Everything was so beautifully and thoughtfully presented on each plate that I almost didn’t want to touch the food! (And, if you know me at all…you know that’s saying a lot).
While the menu changes frequently depending on what’s in season, here’s a sample of what you might expect to order at Bar Melusine:
Your selection of freshly shucked oysters
Scallop tartare (ours was paired with dill and nectarines which was an amazing pairing)
Fried fish skin topped with salmon roe
Buckwheat crepe with seasonal vegetables (because, this is technically a French restaurant)
Lamb pré-salé (this was a smoked leg of lamb, thinly sliced to perfection)
Now that you’ve seen the pictures….wouldn’t you agree that they are some of the most beautifully presented plates ever?!
